Homemade Taco Seasoning Without Food Additives

If all the food recalls lately haven’t scared you away from buying processed foods……

Many people are ready to get back to a more simple approach to food.  In the wake of the Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein recall and the large pepper recall, we’ve learned that even organic foods aren’t immune from food safety issues.  Why?  Because many organic food companies use the same industrial food supply chain that other conventional foods use.  Many organic labeled foods aren’t 100% completely organic and natural even if the package says “Organic”!

You can grow many of your own herbs and spices in your own home garden or flower bed.  You can also order many herbs and spices online in bulk for a fraction of the cost of store bought spices and seasoning packets.

You can make inexpensive taco seasoning at home with out the additives and preservatives and without the high price!  And without Hydrolyzed Protein, MSG or other additives commonly found in store bought packaged taco seasoning, making homemade seasonings is healthier for your family!

Here is a simple recipe for Taco Seasoning:

  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

  • Shake together and add to your recipe like you would a package seasoning.  This seasoning recipe makes enough for 1 lb of meat.

I like to save empty spice containers and empty glass jars.  You can use glass jars and spice containers for storing homemade spices, seasoning and mixes.
