About Penny Pantry

What is The Penny Pantry?

The Penny Pantry is an exciting blog about recapturing the old fashion art of pantry building while living in a modern world !  From couponing to canning, I’m all about spending less on groceries and stock a gigantic home pantry!  How fun is that!

I’m a stay-at-home mom of 8 and with a large family to feed, I love to find ways to save money on my grocery bill, stock my pantry and create meals that are nutritious and inexpensive.  I use to be like everyone else and spend a whole lot of money on not a lot of food.  I learned how to drastically cut my grocery bill and build my pantry with lots of food and household supplies for pennies on the dollar.  I’ve saved thousands of dollars and I like to show other moms just how to do the same thing!  I regularly save 50% to 75% off my groceries and achive that in a variety of ways from couponing, bulk food buying, cooking from scratch, gardening to home canning.   I’d like to share my journey with you along with tips and ideas to help you build a large home pantry from couponing to canning!

I also hope to inspire and encourage homemakers to not just become savvy shoppers, but to focus time and effort on developing their homemaking skills and utilizing Grandmother’s old fashioned wisdom to build sustainable, productive kitchens and pantries.

Coupons aren’t the only way to save a ton of money on stocking your pantry!  Making foods from scratch, whipping up your own homemade dressings and mixing your own seasonings, growing your own garden, learning how to freeze foods and learning how to water bath and pressure can foods also are great ways to save a ton of money on groceries.  So, you can say that Penny Pantry offers a holistic approach to saving money on the grocery bill!

Here’s my weekly blog schedule:

Monday: Meal plan Monday.  Meal planning tips, ideas, short-cuts. Meal planning not only saves time and energy, but it also helps keep costs down.  Meal planning prevents last minute splurges because of lack of time or lack of food in the house.  Meal planning also reduces stress and frustration about “what’s for supper”.

Tuesday: Grocery deals for the week or links to other grocery deal websites who have detailed information about interesting grocery deals is on Tuesday.  Couponing helped me build a large pantry, cut my grocery bill and became the vehicle to help me transition over to a more self-sufficient lifestyle.  For those just starting out and having limited options, I’ll be posting possible deals or links to deals, printable coupons, coupon savings ideas or how to coupon tips.

Wednesday:  The old fashioned pantry with Grandmother’s pantry ideas is on Wednesday.  Canning, gardening and other ideas from Grandmother about how to build a large workable pantry for pennies.  Grandmother’s old fashioned pantry ideas are not only sustainable and healthy, but provide the greatest savings of all.  These are lots arts that need to be recaptured!

Thursday:  Recipes, bulk cooking, freezer cooking planning, ideas and tips come on Thursday.  I’ll mainly be focusing on from scratch recipes and recipes to make items commonly bought at the store (ketchup, barbeque sauce, taco seasoning, spaghetti seasoning and the like).  From time to time,  I’ll post some of our bulk cooking and freezer cooking recipes and once a month cooking recipes, plans and ideas.

Friday:  Frugal Friday with pantry stockpile pictures, grocery savings pictures, pantry tithe.  Also includes frugal homemaking and pantry organization ideas.  I’m also interested in highlighting other homemaking blogs and their ideas on frugality, pantry building organization and ideas, stockpile pictures, recipes and the like.  If you’d like to write a guest post or just send me a picture of your pantry or your latest canning or gardening project, let me know!

I’ve just finished up my first ebook called The Penny Pantry:  Money Saving Strategies for Building a Gigantic Pantry for Pennies! It’s my story of how experiencing job loss and an income crunch led me to look for ways to cut our out of control large family grocery bill and how I went about doing just that with the bonus of getting to build a great pantry with all my extra food and supplies I was bringing home. In this e-book, I talk about how couponing can drastically cut your grocery bill and how you can use couponing to build a large pantry for pennies on the dollar.  Check it out and let me know what you think!

I’m on twitter tweeting about how to build a home pantry store!  Follow Me Here!

We are also creating an e-mail list where I will be sending out regular grocery tips and tricks, hot coupon deals, and exciting news.  Be sure to join me here as well and of course if you prefer reading Penny Pantry in your RSS reader you can join the feed here.

I hope Penny Pantry will encourage you!  - Beth
